I usually spend my morning break checking my phone. Yesterday, I left it on my desk and went to get a coffee. A colleague from another team was already in the kitchen. We had met before, but I only knew his name. I mentioned the rain and how wet my shoes were. He laughed and told me he had walked to work too. That led to a conversation about our routes to the office. We both pass the same bakery, and he recommended their bread. We talked for a few minutes, then went back to work. It wasn't a deep conversation, but it felt comfortable. This morning, when I saw him in the lift, saying hello felt more natural. We already had something to talk about.
Ler
Alex usually gets coffee before work. He knows the staff at the café, but he doesn't often talk to other customers. Today, the café is busy, so he shares a table with Ben.
Their conversation starts with a simple question about the building. Then they talk about working from home and their usual coffee orders. Nothing is very personal, and neither person needs an interesting story.
A useful way to keep small talk going is to answer, add one detail, and ask something back. For example: 'I work upstairs, but I'm working from home this week. Do you work nearby?'
You can talk about what you usually do or what's different today. Listen to the answer and use one detail to continue. When you need to leave, keep it simple: 'Anyway, I need to get to work. Nice talking to you.' A short conversation is enough to make the next meeting feel easier.
Falar
Escrever
Encontraste uma antiga colega no supermercado e trocaram números à pressa. Ela escreve: “So nice bumping into you! What have you been up to?”
