Yesterday afternoon I popped into a travel agency to ask about day trips. There were two options: a wine tour and a coastal trip. I asked the agent, "Could you tell me the difference between the two?" She explained that the wine tour includes tastings at two vineyards and lunch, while the coastal trip is more about beaches and a boat ride. The wine tour was a bit more expensive, fifty-five euros, but it lasted the whole day. I asked if there was a discount for booking two people, and she said she could do ten per cent off. In the end I chose the wine tour. She booked me in, printed the voucher and reminded me to bring comfortable shoes and a hat.

Tom is spending a week in Porto and wants to book a day trip to the Douro Valley. At the hotel reception, he asks for help.
"We work with two companies," says the receptionist. "This one does a small-group tour with a maximum of eight people. It includes a river cruise, lunch and two wine tastings. It leaves at eight thirty and comes back around six."
"And the other one?"
"That's a bigger bus tour. It's cheaper, but there are about forty people and lunch isn't included."
"I think I prefer the small group. Could you check if there's availability for Friday?"
The receptionist makes a quick phone call. "Yes, there are two places left. Shall I book it for you?"
"Yes, please. And could you tell me where they pick us up?"
"They collect you here at the hotel, at eight fifteen. I'll confirm everything by email."
Falar
Imagine you are booking a day trip. Speak for 30–60 seconds: ask about two different options, compare them, ask if there is a discount, and say which one you want to book and why.
Escrever
Write 3–5 sentences to a tour operator asking about a day trip: the options available, the price for two people, and where the pick-up point is.
