OK, so this is the living room. It's not huge, but there's lots of natural light because the windows face south. Over here there's the kitchen, which is open-plan, so I can cook and talk at the same time. Down the corridor there are two bedrooms and a tiny study where I work from home. The best part is the terrace. In summer, we practically live out there. The only thing I'd change is the bathroom. It's a bit old-fashioned, but we're planning to redo it next year.

Describing a home in English To describe a home, start with the type: a flat (UK) / apartment, a house, a studio. Then size and location: "It's quite small, but it's in a great area." "It's on the ground floor." Then the rooms: "There are three bedrooms." "There's an open-plan kitchen." Finally, a feeling: "It's really cosy", "It's bright and airy", "It's a bit cramped." Useful pair: "There is" for one thing, "There are" for more than one. And "There isn't a lift" is more natural than "There is no lift" in conversation.

Imagine you are showing your home to a friend on a video call. Speak for 30–60 seconds: describe the rooms, the best part and one thing you would change.
