Ouvir

Vais ouvir uma viajante a contar como se apresentou num jantar de grupo.

Last summer I joined a group dinner on a food tour in Lisbon. There were ten of us around one long table, and nobody knew anyone. The guide said, "Let's go round the table." I was nervous, but I kept it simple. "Hi, I'm Sofia. I'm from Madrid, but I'm living in London at the moment. I work in marketing, and I'm here for a long weekend with my sister." The man next to me said he was travelling around Europe for three months. I asked, "Oh, where have you been so far?" and suddenly we were talking. What I learned is that a good introduction isn't a speech. It's your name, one or two facts, and a little door the other person can open.

How to introduce yourself without sounding like a CV When you meet people on holiday, nobody needs your full biography. A natural introduction has three parts. First, your name: "Hi, I'm Clara." You can add "Nice to meet you" when the other person says their name. Second, one or two facts: where you're from, where you live, or what you do. "I'm from Coimbra, but I'm living in Lisbon now." Third, a reason or a detail: "I'm here for a friend's wedding" or "It's my first time in Scotland." That last part is important. It gives the other person something to ask about: "Oh, whose wedding?" or "What do you think of it so far?" Remember the difference: "I live in Lisbon" is permanent; "I'm living in Lisbon" sounds temporary.

Falar

Imagine you are at a group dinner on holiday. Speak for 30–60 seconds: introduce yourself with your name, where you are from and where you live now, what you do, and one detail about your trip that others can ask about.

Escrever

Write 4–5 sentences introducing yourself in a WhatsApp group for a holiday tour: who you are, where you live, what you do and why you are on this trip.
