Ouvir

I usually wake up at half past six, before the rest of the house is awake. I make coffee and spend a few minutes by the kitchen window. That quiet time helps me start the day. I work in an office, but twice a week I work from home. On office days, I take the train and listen to music on the way. I check my emails first, then focus on the most important task. Lunch is usually something I bring from home. I try to leave work at five, although that doesn’t always happen. In the evening, I cook, talk to my partner, and sometimes go for a walk. My routine isn’t very exciting, but it gives me time for the things I care about.

It's my first week in a shared office. I'm a data analyst, and most of my work is online. At home, I'm often alone all day. Here, there are people to talk to between tasks.
On Tuesday, Ben asks me about my routine. I start with my working hours: "I'm usually here from half past eight until five." Then I explain that my mornings are for reports and my afternoons are for meetings. Friday is different because I'm at home.
My routine isn't only about work, though. I'm up at seven, and I walk to the office after breakfast. At lunchtime, I'm usually ready for some fresh air. After work, I cook or meet a friend.
Ben tells me he's a morning person too. We both prefer an early start and a quiet evening. Now our next conversation has a starting point: life outside work, not just our names and job titles.
Falar
You have started working from home two days a week and your manager wants to understand how you organise yourself.
She says, “Just talk me through a typical week.”
Explica a tua rotina por blocos, não hora a hora: o que fazes quando estás concentrada e o que deixas para o fim do dia.
Ela comenta, “And when things don't go to plan?” Explica o que muda nesses dias e o que fazes para proteger o que é importante.
Prática de fala
Grava a tua resposta em voz alta. Ouço-te e devolvo-te uma correção.
Escrever
Your team is testing flexible hours and your manager asked everyone to write a few lines about how they work best.
You want to keep your early mornings, when you concentrate better, and you do not want to lose the two days you work from home.
Escreve 3 a 6 frases em inglês. Descreve a tua rotina atual, explica em que parte do dia trabalhas melhor e diz claramente o que gostavas de manter. Termina com uma pergunta sobre o próximo passo.
