Before my morning Pilates class, I welcome a new student called Anna. It is her first visit, so I show her where to leave her bag and find a mat. We talk for a minute before the others arrive. I ask about her experience and whether she has any pain or injuries. She tells me that her lower back sometimes hurts after a long day at her desk. Her doctor has said she can exercise, but she needs to avoid certain movements. I ask which ones feel uncomfortable and listen carefully to her answer. Then I explain that I can offer simpler options during the class. She does not need to follow every movement. Before we start, I check that she has enough space and feels comfortable on her mat.

Nina arrives ten minutes before her first Pilates class. Mia welcomes her and shows her where to leave her bag. Before Nina chooses a mat, Mia asks, “Is there anything I should know before we start?”
Nina mentions a sore wrist. Mia moves to a quieter part of the room so they can talk privately. She asks which movements cause discomfort and whether Nina has any advice from a doctor or physio. Nina says she needs to avoid putting weight on her right hand.
Mia explains that she can offer different movements during the session. “You don't need to follow every exercise exactly,” she says. “If something hurts, stop and let me know.”
They choose a place where Nina can see Mia clearly. Before the other students arrive, Mia checks one more thing: “Do you have any questions about the class?” Nina asks about equipment, and Mia shows her what she needs.
Falar
Um aluno novo diz que não tem lesões, mas a meio da conversa menciona uma cirurgia ao joelho há um ano que "já não conta".
Acolhe-o, volta atrás com as perguntas e percebe exatamente o que a cirurgia implica hoje.
Ele minimiza: "I'm fine, really." Insiste sem o assustar.
Escrever
